I have an idea. Why don't we make a monthly contest on the user rides? It's more a competition. Every month the most interesting rides will win. something like 1st, 2nd and 3rd place or only the 1st place I don't care. I think this would be quite cool.

ahm of course this would be only possible if we have enough rides so it most probably wouldn't make sense with 5 rides over 5 months. We could define something like rules and I think dimi could integrate it on the site?

good idea. but what is the price? what do the first place receive? I think posting a ride here is already a good decision. If you look at the "share it" link above you are able to send the url to myspace, facebook digg.it and so on. And how will you define who wins? If I rate 5 stars all the way the Prelude and other 20 users do same how could the Skyline or the 350Z win?

I wouldn't go for forums rating because usually the guy with most buddies wins. What would be cool if could extend the user rides section that way that with starting a month all new comers from the list newest rides are going to get voted. The owners are not allowed to vote. It would be more correct if a "moderator" users would look for the votes. They are not allowed to decide which one wins. The users do!!!. The moderators watch only for fake accounts. I like the idea. What does dimi think?

I like the idea. I like it very much. But I think to get people post their rides you should give em somehting like a breadcrumb to make them like this. What if we would have small prices. We could think of stuff like reserve tank cover. If a Honda guy wins get him Mugen covers if a Nissan guy wins get him Nismo covers and so on. Those parts cost of course but it should be possible to get a sponsor (maybe) lol. If not then we could think of presenting their rides on the frontpage like a short article to make this ride something special like "ride of the month". Of course hte owner of the site has to agree but its a suggestion.

What would be important is to get a banner on the main page. This must be advertised correct. I noticed that if I don't scroll down on the main page I would not even recognize that there are user rides on this site. I think the list on the start page should be visible at once.

good points. a banner would be a must have. I don't think the stuff you told is ok. You most probably wont get a sponsor dont forget the world economy is down at this time. and who guarantes that the right people will get the stuff? But the idea is good I think.

so how will we get people to notice the competition? I think if we post on concurrent forums our posts will get deleted :( I know that because I already tried but got banned on a forum for advertising a concurent site.

how do we use quotes here? I think the idea with the monthly newcomers is great. I wouldn't go for material price. That costs and since this is a non-commercial site I think sponsoring will not really work so the "Ride of the month" is a great idea on the start page of course. I think also that the views of a ride should somehow count and not only the overall rating but all four single rating categories in average and maybe somehow the comment count but i think comment count is not too representative since you can write for a car more than once and limiting users commenting cars only once is no good i think because many people work often on their rides and change something and then you want to comment it. idea sounds great I think. I'm with you guys so what are next steps?

ok we have a couple of very good ideas  I think. How could we get things started? I think the next step is to talk to Dimi. If he thinks those things are possible we will give it a try right? What would be also cool is an email notification on this forums. Of course I'm regular hahaha but since I participate in many posts I sometimes loose orientation lol. Just a suggestion

I've read the points you guys started here and must admit I like them very much. It's no problem changing the voting stuff so that we have every month another winner. We can extend the starting page with a box "ride of the month" as you suggested. Let's get some more info on that so work can begin. Thank you guys for the suggestions. It sure will be cool.
