so Ihappen to have this lovely gray mettalic 1986 300ZX (Z31) sitting outside my house that I purchased for ~$300usd. Now i was doing a bit of research on motor swap for this thing (considering it doesnt run + its N/A) and came across a car that the Nissan/Nismo gods did not choose to grace us with in the US, the 200ZR (nissan's attempt at a hybrid Zkyline (Z31 with an RB20 powerplant)  now since the RB20, RB25DET, and the RB26DETT are all the same size, theoretically I could mate it with an R33 GTS-T RWD tranny which should fit perfectly in the Z31's smaller sized tranny tunnel and with *+*crucial*+* a 200ZR front crossmember and mounts it will be a simple drop and bolt type deal...: )  so what does everyone think?

RB25DET Z31 all the way baby. You guy are crazy. we should rename you to Mr. Nissan. great job that way man but take care about 200zr corsovers are not fit for that swap. I read somewhere about problems doing this, just research the web and I'll post the link.

great to see you again turboz32. man is there a ride beside the z you like?  just kiddin. give us some pics. please!!!!!!!

stupid question imagine doin a RB25DET which is a mid size engine it should do it with about 240 hp and still turbo. But you would go better this engine is lighter then the RB26** series. The hp difference I think is not that great in relation with the weight so I would prefer the RB25DET or even go down to the 2.0l turbo.

well, yes in fact Im a huge fan of the RX-7 along with the 240SX and the skyline BNR33.

Yes, actually a motor swap (with the right equiptment isnt all that hard) just do the research and have a lot of hands to help you.

and finally after doing a bit more research I found:

http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=111954

www.mpgautoparts.com makes a custom oil pan to accomodate the 25/26

and here is more info on this car... its being built strictly for drifting, Im looking for anywhere between 400 to 475 ho to the wheels... which means that Id have to aquire the nessecary mods (intake exhaust chip turbo injectors intercooler(s) oh yeah, and I have a shop willing to let me use their lift which helps a lot.  But regardless, owning a Z32 you kinda get used to pulling engines... for example my 17 year old brother pulled his engine in one afternoon to replace turbo seals and fix a broken wastegate.  So I guess you can say that having my first car be a Z32 is where I got all the experience from. : )

sounds great buddy. The link is exactly what was mentioned before, but those guys did it on a z31 like you want to do. update this post with some pics. Why don't you make a progress post showing every step of pogress would be real great. Man seems you know what you do. This Z31 will be kickin. 450 for drift on the rear. wow.

It seems I'm the only one who never performed an engine swap. Nevertheless sounds great your plans. I'll go with the others. Keep us updated. sounds really great.

forget about the RX-7. Sure its a very nice car but imagine what you have with your 300 TT. I mean it's rare (where i come from), a RX-7 is seen often but a 300ZX? And don't forget about the power and the look and yours looks wow.

I'm one of those who "sadly" have not much experience in engine swaps. So the only thing I can say to turboz32 great job at all. I agree with the others. If you don't mind please post pictures to keep the progress here updated. That would be sure of help to others. And of course very intersting to us watching a guy working on a car and knowing what he does.

well, as it sits right now Im thinking of selling the Z31 for parts since i have recently aquired a Mazda 13B... and since an RX-7 FD is wayy to expensive Imthinking of building an FB (the 1st gen RX-7) and dropping the 13B in that... I have a spare GT28R turbo and Greddy 3 row FMIC so who knows....

but as far as the Z31 goes, I need to save some serious cash before dropping 3K on an engine and tranny for it.
